A reading guide to online care

Costs and cover

Ask for the bill with its pieces shown.

Put the visit, the medicine, tests and later care on separate lines. Then ask which lines a quoted price actually pays for.

Ask for a written total

  • What does the first payment cover: the visit, a membership, the medicine or a bundle?
  • What will repeat visits, tests, delivery and refills add?
  • Is the first payment a special offer? What is the regular charge?
  • How does renewal work, and what must I do to cancel?
  • What is the charge for a visit that ends with no medicine prescribed?

A check of advertised online weight-care fees on 26 September 2026 found memberships that left the medicine bill separate.

That was a small sample of advertised plans, not a market-wide price study.

A price scale for weight medicines

GLP-1 medicines copy a natural hormone’s actions on appetite and blood sugar.

For many GLP-1 weight medicines, drug makers’ advertised monthly prices were about $149 to $499 when insurance was not used. The prices were checked on 26 September 2026.

The product and strength changed the price, and late refills could make some offers cost more.

The amount supplied as a “month” was not the same across the offers.

Ask whether you qualify for the maker’s offer, when it ends and whether your pharmacy can use it. Get the exact medicine charge plus any fee for care. The range does not tell you your bill.

Ask what insurance has agreed to pay

Tell your insurer the proposed medicine’s name and the purpose of the prescription. “Covered” and “what I will pay” are different questions.

Medicare may pay for a weight medicine used to treat another accepted health problem, such as type 2 diabetes or certain heart risks. This was checked on 26 September 2026.

The plan’s list of covered medicines still matters, along with permission to pay that it may require in advance.

That advance agreement is called prior authorization. Ask who submits it and how you will hear the answer.

Include later care in the plan
